What you will leave with

You will create a lightweight ownership register and a repeatable review schedule.

01

Assign an owner to each important asset.

List the apps, shared information, agents, and connections the business depends on. Name a business owner who understands the purpose and a maintainer who can coordinate changes. In a small team, one person may hold both roles, but the responsibilities still need to be clear. Record who provides coverage when the owner is away.

02

Define decisions and evidence.

Agree who requests a change, who reviews access and information handling, and who accepts the business result. Keep the process proportionate to the impact. A wording change and a new external data exchange do not need identical review. For procurement or internal assurance, collect factual documentation and confirm its scope; do not infer a certification or approval from a generic security statement.

03

Review what changes over time.

Schedule a practical review of ownership, access, active connections, and whether each app still serves a purpose. Include joiner, role-change, and departure events. Identify unused or duplicate apps before they become conflicting sources of information. Record the decision and follow-up owner so the review results in action, not only a completed meeting.

Illustrative example: a growing multi-team company

A fictional company keeps an ownership register for its customer app, service agent, and team notification connection. The register identifies the business purpose, owner, maintainer, access reviewer, and next review date. When a manager leaves, responsibility and access are reviewed before the app becomes dependent on an unattended account.

Create a five-asset ownership register.

Use sample apps, information sets, an agent, and a connection. Record purpose, owner, maintainer, coverage, access review owner, and review date. Choose one low-impact and one higher-impact change, then describe the evidence each needs before approval.

Check your work.

Put your understanding to the test

Answer all three questions correctly to complete this lesson. Feedback is part of the learning; you can try again.

03questions
01A small company has one person acting as business owner and maintainer. Is that automatically a problem?
02A vendor describes strong security practices. What should procurement infer about a named certification?
03An access review finds an unused app and an owner who has left. What makes the review complete?

Your results are saved in this browser. Academy completion is a learning record, not a professional certification.
