What you will leave with

You will create an expansion plan with a shared core, permitted variations, and readiness checks for each team.

01

Identify the shared core.

Start with a process that already works for one team. Separate the information definitions, handoff rules, and ownership responsibilities that must stay consistent from details that are genuinely local. Document why a rule is shared. Copying an app without agreement on meaning can create several incompatible versions of the same business process.

02

Make variation deliberate.

Ask the next team where its work differs and use specific examples. Decide whether the difference requires a configurable variation, a separate app, or a change to the shared process, based on supported capabilities. Give local exceptions an owner and a reason. Avoid inventing a universal workflow that makes every team’s everyday tasks harder.

03

Roll out in reviewed waves.

Choose a small next group and check its data, access, training, support, and acceptance evidence. Name the local owner and the shared-process owner. Review what changed after the pilot before adding more teams. Keep a feedback route and decide who can approve changes that affect everyone, including when an existing shared rule should be revised.

Illustrative example: a regional service business

A fictional business has three branches. All use the same customer reference, request status definitions, and handoff acceptance rules. One branch needs an additional site-access check. The expansion plan keeps that local need explicit while preserving the shared definitions needed for cross-branch reporting and support.

Compare two teams before copying the app.

List five rules from an existing sample workflow. Mark each as shared, local, or unresolved for a second team and explain why. Create readiness checks for data, access, training, and support. Define who can resolve an exception and what evidence the next rollout wave needs.

Check your work.

Put your understanding to the test

Your knowledge check.

Answer all three questions correctly to complete this lesson. Feedback is part of the learning; you can try again.

03questions
01A second team uses the same status word with a different meaning. What should happen before rollout?
02A branch has a genuine local site-access requirement. What is the best response?
03The first team’s pilot succeeded. What does the next team still need?
