A little guidance. A clearer next step.
Follow the reading, unpack the idea, and put it into practice. At your pace.
What you will leave with
You will write an improvement brief with acceptance checks and a review plan for AI-assisted work.
01
Describe the problem before the solution.
Start with who is affected, what happens today, and the result you want to change. Include one concrete example and the work that must keep behaving as before. Ask for the smallest useful improvement. A vague request to “make the app better” leaves decisions hidden inside the implementation and makes acceptance difficult.
02
Review the proposal in business terms.
Use AI to help explore or prepare the change, then examine its assumptions, information access, dependencies, and effect on existing work. Confirm which suggested capabilities your workspace actually supports. Keep customer data out of examples unless its use is explicitly appropriate. Use sample records to make the expected behaviour clear without creating a live customer commitment.
03
Own the release and the next change.
Run acceptance checks for the new behaviour and the existing behaviour it might affect. Have the responsible person review the result and the recovery approach. Record what changed and why so another team member can maintain it. Internal development means the business owns the decision, the supporting knowledge, and the follow-up; an AI suggestion does not remove those responsibilities.
Example to adapt
Illustrative example: improving a request handoff
A fictional team finds that requests reach delivery without a named owner. Its brief asks for a supported way to prevent or flag incomplete handoffs. Acceptance checks cover a complete request, a missing owner, and a request already in progress. The team reviews the proposed approach and tests it with sample records before changing the live process.
Try it with your team
Write a change request AI can help with.
Describe the current problem, affected users, desired result, unchanged behaviours, and available constraints. Add three acceptance checks and a rollback or manual fallback. Ask a colleague to review the brief without seeing your preferred implementation. Revise it until the business outcome is unambiguous.
Check your work.
